Where the numbers come from
Worth reading before you reconcile anything against an invoice. This is what Lineman measures, when it arrives, and where it will legitimately differ from your provider's bill.
What is measured
Lineman records usage from your sessions as they happen: what was sent, what came back, and which model handled it. That capture is free on every plan, including Free, and it is what fills the Cost Explorer.
Attribution comes from the session itself: the developer signed in, and the repository and branch they were working in. Connecting a source integration is what turns a bare repository name into something you can authorise and report on.
How money is stored
Every amount is held as an exact whole number and shown to you rounded. That is why a column of displayed figures can differ from the displayed total by a rounding unit: the total is computed from the exact values, not from the rounded ones on screen.
Why it may not match your invoice
Lineman measures your usage. Your provider bills you. Those are close but not identical, and the honest reasons are worth knowing.
- Billing periods and the range you are viewing rarely line up exactly.
- Only sessions running Lineman are captured. Work done without it is invisible here and still on your bill.
- Displayed cost uses published rates. Negotiated pricing, credits and taxes sit on the invoice, not here.
- To reconcile properly, connect the Anthropic integration: it pulls what you were actually billed so the two sit side by side.
How far back it goes
How much history you can query depends on your plan. The figures themselves are not deleted when a plan changes; the query window is what moves.
