GitHub integration setup

Connecting GitHub lets Lineman attribute AI spend to your repositories and branches, and highlight spend on any repo your team was not expected to be working in. Unlike Jira it is all automatic once installed: nothing to add per repo.

Connect

  1. 1On the Integrations page, open GitHub and click Connect GitHub.
  2. 2Install the Lineman GitHub App on your account or organisation. Installing on an org lets you grant access to many repos at once; an individual account works too.
  3. 3Pick which repositories the App can see (all, or a selection). Lineman then discovers those repos and their branch conventions automatically.
  4. 4Authorise at least one repository in Lineman. Choosing repositories for the GitHub App only decides what Lineman can SEE. On Lineman's GitHub page each discovered repository is listed switched off, and nothing is written to any issue until you switch one on. Costs start appearing on the next scheduled run after that.

Authorise the repos you spend on

On the connected view, tick the repositories your team is expected to work in. Spend Lineman then sees on any unticked repo is flagged, so unexpected AI usage (a personal fork, a repo outside the team) stands out. Use Authorise all if every discovered repo is fair game, and Sync to re-discover after adding repos in GitHub.

What you get

  • AI spend attributed per repository and branch in Cost Explorer.
  • A flag on spend seen in repos you did not authorise.
  • Periodic re-sync so new repos and branches are picked up without re-connecting.

No per-repo setup. The GitHub App reads repo + branch metadata only; it does not need any field or config added to your repos. To change which repos it can see, adjust the App's repository access in GitHub, then hit Sync.
