Slack
Send the weekly cost digest and your spend alerts into a Slack channel, so the number reaches people where they already are rather than waiting in a dashboard nobody has open.
Slack is not generally available yet. The connect flow is limited to Lineman staff while we finish it, so the steps below describe what you will do rather than what you can do today.
Connecting a workspace
You authorise Lineman from your Slack workspace and choose the channel to post into. The authorisation is per workspace, and the channel can be changed later without reconnecting.
Pick a channel people actually read. A cost digest in a channel nobody opens is the same as no digest, and it is the most common reason this integration gets set up and then quietly ignored.
The weekly digest
A summary of the week's spend: the total, the change against the previous week, and where the movement came from. It is the same shape as the emailed digest, so a team can pick whichever one they will read.
Alerts
Budget and spike alerts can post to the channel as they fire. This is the half of the integration that earns its keep: a digest tells you what happened last week, an alert tells you while you can still do something about it.
What gets posted
Cost figures and the dimensions they break down by, which for most teams means developer names and repository names. Anyone who can read the channel can read those, so the channel choice is an access-control decision as much as a convenience one.
