Jira integration setup
Once connected, Lineman writes each ticket's cumulative AI spend onto an AI Spend (Lineman) number field on the issue, refreshed hourly. Where that field comes from depends on your project type.
Company-managed projects
Nothing to do. When you tick a company-managed (classic) project in the picker, Lineman creates the AI Spend (Lineman) field and adds it to the issue screen automatically, then starts writing spend on the next hourly run.
Team-managed (next-gen) projects
Team-managed projects manage their own fields, so it is a quick one-time step per project: add the number field to the work types your tracked issues use, and Lineman fills it in automatically from the next hourly run.
- 1In your project, open Project settings, then Work types, and pick a work type your tracked issues use (for example Task or Story).
- 2Add a Number field named exactly AI Spend (Lineman) to that work type: click it in the fields panel if it is already offered, or use Create field to make it. Repeat for each work type you track.
- 3Save. On the next hourly run (or when you press Re-check on the integration page) Lineman finds the field by name and writes each ticket's AI spend onto it.
Which type is my project? In Project settings, team-managed projects say “You're in a team-managed project”; company-managed ones do not. If a project's spend never appears, it is almost always a team-managed project that still needs the field added to its work types.
Troubleshooting
- Keep the field named exactly AI Spend (Lineman) so Lineman can find it.
- Company-managed field creation needs a Jira site admin (Administer Jira); adding the field to a team-managed project's work types needs to be an admin of that project. If you hit a permission error, ask a Jira admin.
- The integration status page shows a note when a write-back is failing, with the same guidance for the affected project.
