Lineman and Zapier

Trigger Zaps from spend events and pull cost data into thousands of apps.

What this gets you

Zapier connects Lineman to any of Zapier's thousands of apps. The New Cost Alert trigger starts a Zap whenever a Lineman cost alert becomes active. Search steps read spend, savings, allowance, top spenders, members, repositories and cost centres on demand. Action steps write back: set a member's budget, create, update, delete or reorder cost centres, dismiss an alert, or authorise a repository from an alert. A connection can do only what you can do in Lineman, so a member gets their own figures where an administrator gets company-wide ones. The Lineman app is invite-only for now and is not listed in Zapier's public directory, so searching for it there will not find it.

What people use it for

  • Budget breaches into Slack

Use the New Cost Alert trigger, then a Slack message step. A budget breach lands in the channel your team already watches.

  • Weekly spend report to a spreadsheet

Zapier's Schedule trigger, then Find Spend Breakdown, then add a row to Google Sheets. That gives you a dated record of the breakdown in the sheet, with no manual export.

  • Act on an alert automatically

A Zap does not have to stop at reporting. After a New Cost Alert, action steps can set a member's budget, authorise a repository from the alert, or dismiss the alert once it has been handled. Admin actions are refused unless the connected account is an administrator.
