The Cost Explorer runs on lightweight usage metadata, not your code. Coming from a local-only tool, that trade-off matters, so here's exactly what does and doesn't leave your machine.

The optional compressor works in memory; tool output is never persisted.

Is there really a free plan?

Yes. Lineman's Cost Explorer is free forever for individuals, with no credit card. Paid plans add what a free local CLI can't: whole-team roll-up, alerts, budgets, and the token-saving compressor.

Is my data private?

The Cost Explorer runs on usage metadata (counts, models, repo and ticket names), never your source code or prompts. The optional compressor processes tool output in memory only, and nothing is ever used to train a model.

Do I need a credit card?

No. The free plan needs no card and never expires. You only add a card if you upgrade for the compressor or team features.

Will it change my Claude Code workflow?

No. One command installs the plugin and you keep using Claude Code exactly as before: same prompts, same output.

Does it work across my whole team?
